Dear Girl Who Opened the Door,
I'm sorry I don't know your name, I really wish I had asked. And I know this post will probably never cross your way, but I just wanted to say thank you.
I'm sure you didn't know the thoughts that had just crossed my mind or the minor anxiety they caused.
I'm sure you weren't aware that I was on the verge of tears.
I'm sure you had no idea that I was leaving the library to clear my head.
As I made my way out, I saw you through the double glass doors, and made a move to pass through on the opposite side so that we wouldn't collide. But you smiled right at me, opened the door, and waited for me to go through.
I smiled back and said thank you, to which you responded "You're welcome, have a great day!"
It was exactly what I needed to hear.
So thank you, even though I know it seemed like an unimportant thing. But it brightened that little moment of my day which was fringed with darkness.
Thank you for reminding me that kindness and goodness, even (and perhaps especially) in small instances like these can have a huge impact.
Sincerely,
Me
PS: As I was walking out, another student was walking in with his hands full with books and bags. I wanted to let you know that I held open the door. Your chain of kindness is still going. :)
