This week is Easter, and it has me thinking about the beautiful power of the Atonement. For those of you who may not know, I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (aka I'm a Mormon). Christ and his sacrifice is the very center of our religion, and it is such a powerful message of forgiveness and mercy.
We all make mistakes.
I do.
You do.
But that doesn't mean that after one slip up we are doomed forever to live in guilt, shame, and misery. There is always a source of love and strength to turn to, and that is our Savior, Jesus Christ.
And he not only suffered for our sins, but also for all of our weaknesses, infirmities, and pain. When someone hurts us, or we suffer despite all the good we are trying to do, we want to cry out "Someone should pay for this!"
The truth is, someone already did.
Countless times, I have found myself on my knees asking for peace, comfort, direction, courage, strength. He always listens. He always answers.
So even though we all have mistakes, flaws, and imperfections, our Lord and Redeemer loves us perfectly, and knows exactly what we are going through. He knows exactly how to lift us out of our despair and give us strength and courage.
Because he lives, we can live again. Each day. We can begin again, and receive the help we need to reach our divine potential.
We all make mistakes.
I do.
You do.
